Marianne Ravor

Before emigrating to Israel in 1961Marianne Ravor trained as a social worker at Oxford and Edinburgh universities, working in psychiatric settings. She continued her work in Israel until her retirement in 1981, when she was able to devote more time to her painting. Four years ago she began suffering from AMD (Age-related Macular Disease) and was registered blind. She enjoys writing (sporadically) and recently, at the age of 89, wrote a poem which appeared in a recent edition of ESRA Magazine, and the short story which appears in this edition. As she cannot see to write, she has to memorize what she wants to say, and, when she’s satisfied with the end result, dictates the final version to a friend. Marianne (Ramat Gan) and her sister (London) can no longer visit each other, but communicate over the telephone every week. As there’s a lot of news to be exchanged, Israel has to patiently wait its turn.
